I have a nervous breakdown in the film and in one scene I get to stand at the top of the stairs waving an empty sherry bottle which is, of course, a typical scene from my daily life, so isn't much of a stretch.
I keep a hotel room in my town, although I have a large house.
And I go there at about 5:30 in the morning, and I start working. And I don't allow anybody to come in that room. I work on yellow pads and with ballpoint pens. I keep a Bible, a thesaurus, a dictionary, and a bottle of sherry. I stay there until midday.
I had no portrait, now, but am small, like the wren;
and my hair is bold, like the chestnut bur; and my eyes, like the sherry in the glass, that the guest leaves.
